Wood Deck Renovation Project in Oak Grove, MO
March 20, 2025
The front porch of one of my clients in Oak Grove was in pretty rough condition, the concrete stairs were settling and thus were not level and were cracking in several different areas. The original wrought iron railings were rusting out at the bottom, and thus were very unsafe. The whole area just needed a complete face lift and a renovation.
After going over different ideas and designs, my client decided to go with new wood decking for both the stairs and the deck landing, and wood railing with black aluminum spindles.
To start out, I had to remove some of the old concrete and dig out quite a bit of dirt for the footings for the stairs. After all the demolition and excavation was completed, I set the footings for both the small deck landing and the stairs.
Next, I constructed the stairs and the deck and set up the railing. When the stairs were completed, I built a small landscape retaining wall, which helped keep a lot of dirt from washing away onto the driveway and also just tied the whole front yard together with the stairs.
When I was done with the whole project, the homeowner was extremely satisfied with their new front porch and was excited to enjoy sitting out on it. The new railing also made it a lot more safe with there being a seven foot difference in heights of surfaces in one area.
Overall it increased the accessibility of the front door and the added curb appeal to their property.
